Divine Mercy

THE HISTORY OF DIVINE MERCY

Devotion to the Divine Mercy started in our community (Holy cross) sometime in the year 2009.

The history of divine mercy is as old as GOD’S mercy to mankind dating from the fall of man.

The Old Testament speaks frequently and with great tenderness about God’s mercy. Yet it was Jesus through his words and actions that revealed to us in an extraordinary way,God as a loving Father, rich in mercy and abounding in great kindness and love.

In his parable of the prodigal son, they showed how God, as the merciful Father, seeks the return and healing of the lost son. That God has not ceased opening his doors and making way for his errant children to come home and enjoy his banquette.

The story of divine mercy is the history of God’s kindness and love towards his creatures.The depth of the ocean is only a shadow of the depth of the mercy and love of God to humanity. In Jesus merciful love and care for the poor, the oppressed, the sick and sinful, and especially in his freely choosing to take upon himself the punishment for our sins (a truly horrible suffering and death on the cross), so that all may be freed from destructive consequences and death. He manifested in a superabundant and radical way the greatness of God’s love and mercy for humanity (erring and errant humanity).

To this effect, God at a time revealed himself to a young girl called Faustian Kowalski, a Polish num in a convent of the sisters of our lady of mercy in Vilnius.

The Lord Jesus communicated through her to the world the greatest massage of God’s mercy and reveals the pattern of Christian perfection based on trust in God and on the attitude of mercy towards ones neighbors.

The Lord Jesus chose Sister Faustian as the apostle and ‘’Secretary’’ of his mercy, so that she could tell the world about his great mercy.

“In the old covenant” – he said to her. “I sent prophets wielding thunderbolts to my people. Today I am sending you with my mercy to the people of the world;

I do not want to punish aching mankind, but desire to heal it, pressing to my merciful heart.”

The aim and mission of the message is to remind the world of the truth of our faith revealed in the Holy Scriptures about merciful love of God towards humanity. Entreating God’s mercy for the whole world and particularly for sinners, among others through the practice of new forms of devotion to the divine mercy presented by the Lord Jesus. And initiating the apostolic movement of the divine mercy which undertakes the task of proclaiming and entreating God’s mercy for the world and strives for Christian perfection, following the precepts laid down by Saint Mary Faustian.
