CHARITY WORK
The Holy Cross Church community supports various charities in different
ways, according to their needs.
The House of Obras Don Orion takes care of
handicapped orphans. There is a visiting nurse and a practical teacher to
teach basic domestic skills.
The Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa
Sisters) run an orphanage for young children, and provide medical support in
the community. They built the first HIV/AIDS hospice in the country, and it
brings hope and peace to many sufferers and their families.
The Dom Bosco Sisters run a school in their
compound for residents and non-residents where other training for boys
is given. Some of the advanced students are either sent to high school, or
when the conditions at home have been normalised, they return there. They
also engage the boys in farming activities.
The Mafalala home for the aged is run by volunteer group called the
Conferência da Sociedade São Vincente
de Paul, part of the parish of Santa Ana de Munhuana. Currently there
are no elderly being cared for, and the group is looking for a suitable
place to care for them.
The Casa da Criança Madre Maria Clara
is run by the Congregação das Irmãs Franciscanas
Hospitaleiras Imaculada Conceição.
